A very good salmon season for Hembre Gård

Total Stjørdal river

2021 was far above the peak year 2020 in terms of both salmon numbers and average weight.

It was a slightly slow start this year, but the final sprint in August with once again good water in the river gave adventurous catches. We are also proud that this year's largest salmon was caught in one of our pools this year. Our pools, which together make up about 2.5 km of 55 km of the Stjørdal river caught this year, about 11.5% of the total catches. We must also pay tribute to all our fishermen who are helping to put back such a large proportion of their catches on the river. This makes a huge difference to the production in the river this autumn. Something that is also gratifying this year is bigger and more sea trout. Almost 50 sea trout were caught mainly in Hembre's pools this year. It also accounts for about 11% of the total catches this year and gives little hope that the sea trout will become a fishable species in the future.

Here are some photos from this year's season. Both from the river and on land.

Why such good catches this year when the entry of salmon to the Norwegian coast is so bad?

We think this hangs together with several things. We introduced rotational fishing this year. We have many good fishermen who visit us and who know the river stretches well after a while. We have varied fishing spots that fish well at different water levels. Some deep fishing spots that keep fish throughout the season. But most importantly, we think it has to do with the fact that we put back a lot of big fish in June in particular. Many of them look like they stay here during the entire fishing season and only attract even more fish throughout the season. Then especially in August the conditions can be very good when you get a little extra water flow and the large male salmon wakes up in their preparations for the spawning season joining the female salmons that stands in our pools. This year really shows that our fishing grounds hold a good number of fish, and then really big fish.

We are already looking forward to next year and are well on our way to filling the calendar for 2022!

The best wishes from Hembre Gård to all our guests through the upcoming autumn, winter and next spring when preparations for season 2022 starts again!
